How to Install Netscape Communicator 4.5
for Windows 95/98/NT
These are the instructions for installing
Netscape Communicator 4.5 for Windows 95/98/NT. If you have any questions

kind of computer and software you use.

you go through the installation process.
Step 1 - Downloading the Setup Program
The first step in installing Netscape Communicator is to download a setup program.
To begin this process, click on the link below called 'Netscape Communicator 4.5 for Windows 95/98/NT'.

A screen will pop up called 'File Download'. On it make sure 'Save
file to Disk' is selected and click 'O.K.'.
Next, you should get a window called 'Save As' asking you where on your computer you would like to save the
file. Pull down the menu at the top and select 'Desktop'. Click the 'Save' button and the program will start to download to your
computer. After it finishes downloading, a screen will come up saying
'Download complete'. Click OK. There should now be a new icon on your desktop called 'cb45udp'.
Step 2 - Decompressing the Setup File
To transfer faster, the 'Netscape Communicator' file is compressed. It is necessary to set up a decompressor
to successfully install the program. If you don't already have it, please setup WinZip by following the
instructions located at:
How to Install WinZip for Windows 95/98/NT.
Once you have WinZip on your computer, double click the 'cb45udp' icon on your desktop. A 'WinZip'
screen should appear. Click on the 'I Agree' button to continue.
The next screen that comes up should welcome you to the WinZip Wizard.
Click 'Next'.
Next you should be asked if you want to add the WinZip folder to your Favorite Zip Folders.
Click No.
Another screen will pop up, asking you to click on 'Next' to prepare to install. Click 'Next'.
The next screen will say 'Click Install Now to run the installation program'.
Click 'Install Now'.
A program called InstallShield will then automatically install Netscape for you. When the
program is finished, the WinZip screen will appear. Click 'Close' to continue.
Step 3 - Setting up Netscape Communicator
Netscape Communicator 4.5 Setup should appear as a full screen, with a blue
background. A smaller screen will also surface which welcomes you to Netscape Communicator 4.5 Setup.
Click 'Next'.
The next screen to come up should be entitled 'License Agreement'.
Select the 'Yes' button to continue.
The next screen will ask you what type of setup you prefer. Make sure the circle next to
'Typical' is selected. Unless you have reason to change it, leave the default 'Destination Directory'
name as it is and click 'Next'.
A screen may pop up that telling you that the directory you are installing 'Communicator'
into does not exist.
It should ask you if you want the directory to be created. Click on 'Yes'.
The next screen should ask what Program Folder name you want to use.
By default, 'Netscape Communicator' should already be entered. Unless you
have reason to change it, leave it set to 'Netscape Communicator' and click 'Next'.
The next screen should be entitled 'Start Copying Files'. Click 'Install'.
Netscape will now install all your necessary files.
A screen will come up asking you if you want to view the 'README' file now. Click 'No'.
Next, a screen should come up that states: 'Setup is complete'. Click 'OK' to continue.
A screen will pop up asking if you want to restart your computer. Select the option
'Yes, I want to restart my computer now'. Click 'OK' and your computer should restart automatically.
Please note that any other programs you have opened will be closed.
Step 4 - Setting up Netscape
Once your computer restarts itself, there should be a new icon on your desktop called
'Netscape Communicator'. Double click on it.
The screen that comes up should be called 'Creating a new profile'. Click 'Next' to continue.
The next screen will ask you to fill in your full name and E-mail
address. Where it says Full Name enter your real name or the
name of your business. This is the name that will appear on E-mail messages
you send. Where it says E-mail, enter your BestWeb E-mail address
in lower case letters. Your E-mail address is your BestWeb username
followed by '@bestweb.net'. For instance if your username is 'john1234',
your E-mail address would be 'john1234@bestweb.net'.
The next screen will ask you to fill in your Profile name and the directory in which
to store your profile information.
Where it says Profile Name enter your name or the name of your business.
On the next line, the default file name should already be entered. Unless you
have reason to change it, leave the name as it is and click 'Next'.
A screen should pop up asking you to set up your 'Outgoing mail (SMTP) server'. Type in
smtp.bestweb.net in all lower case and click 'Next' to continue.
The next screen should be called 'Set up your Incoming Mail Server'.
Where it says 'Mail server user name', fill in your BestWeb user name.
The next line asks for your Incoming Mail Server. Fill in pop.bestweb.net . Make sure
the circle next to 'POP3' is selected and click 'Next'.
The next screen will ask you to fill in your News (NNTP) server. Fill in
nntp.bestweb.net in all lower case and click 'Finish'.
A screen may come up asking if you want to register Navigator as your default browser.
Click 'Yes'.
Although you can set Netscape Communicator to start out at any web page, we highly suggest that
you (especially new users) set BestWeb as your home page. The BestWeb page offers a number
of features that help you take advantage of the Internet as well as providing you with
news and updates relevant to your service. To set your home page, do the following:
Click on the 'Edit' option at the top of the screen and select 'Preferences'. In the
column on the left, click on the 'Navigator' category.
In the first section, make sure the circle next to Home Page is selected. In the next
section, called 'Home page', it asks for a 'Location'. Fill in http://www.bestweb.net/
and click 'OK' to save this setting.
From now on, whenever you click on the 'Home' icon along the top
bar of the screen, you will get the BestWeb Homepage.
You are now all set to use Netscape Communicator 4.5 for Windows 95/98/NT!
