How to Install Netscape Communicator 4.6
for Macintosh
These are the instructions for installing
Netscape Communicator 4.6 for Macintosh. If you have any questions

Please note that these directions may vary somewhat depending on what
kind of computer and software you use.
Hint on Using this page - Each
instruction on this page has a screen shot showing the screen you
should be in at that point. To view the screen shot for each step
click the
icon (no pun intended) associated with each step. In addition, it
may be useful to print this page out to have as you go through the
installation process.
Step 1 - Downloading the Setup Program
- To start the installation process, double click the 'Communicator
4.6 w/Calendar' icon on your desktop. This should open a screen with
several icons in it. Double click on the icon that reads *Start
Here*.
This next step is a procedure
that will take 10 steps to complete. In the right bottom corner of
the first screen, it says 'Screen 1 of 10'. In each screen, there
will be a note that tells you what screen number you are in.
- Screen 1 of 10 - The first screen that comes up will read 'New Profile
Setup'. Click 'Next'.

- Screen 2 of 10 - This screen is called 'New Profile Setup'. Next
to where it says Your Name enter your real name, or the name
of your business. Next to E-mail Address enter your BestWeb
E-mail address, in lower case letters. Your E-mail address is your
BestWeb username followed by '@bestweb.net'. For instance if your
username is 'john1234', your E-mail address would be 'john1234@bestweb.net'.
Click 'Next' to continue.

- Screen 3 of 10 - The next screen should ask for your Profile Name.
Fill in your real name and click 'Next' to continue.

- Screen 4 of 10 - This screen should say 'Your Profile Folder'. Unless
you have reason to change it, let the default name stay as is and
click 'Next'.

- Screen 5 of 10 - The next screen asks for your 'Outgoing Mail Settings'.
Fill in smtp.bestweb.net in all lower case letters and click
'Next'.

- Screen 6 of 10 - You should now be asked to enter your 'Incoming
Mail Settings'. Fill in pop.bestweb.net in all lower case letters
and make sure the circle next to 'POP' is selected. Click 'Next' to
continue.

- Screen 7 of 10 - This screen should ask for your 'News (NNTP) Settings'.
Fill in nntp.bestweb.net in all lower case letters and click
'Next'.

- Screen 8 of 10 - The next screen should be called 'Shortcut Icons'.
Next to the three choices, there are empty boxes. Select the box next
to 'Navigator' but leave the other two boxes blank. Click 'Next' to
continue.

- Screen 9 of 10 - The screen that comes up should be called 'Netscape
Import'. Next to 'Import info from other programs' make sure the box
is blank. There should NOT be a check in this box. Click 'Next'.
- Screen 10 of 10 - The last screen will say 'Setup Completed'. Click
'Done'.
- Netscape Communicator should now load its browser screen.
Step 4 -
Setting up your Home Page
Although you can set Netscape
Communicator to start out at any web page, we highly suggest that
you (especially new users) set BestWeb as your home page. The BestWeb
