How to Install Internet Explorer
4.5
for Macintosh
These are the instructions for installing
Internet Explorer 4.5 for Macintosh. If you have any questions or

Please note that these directions may vary somewhat depending on what
kind of computer and software you use.
Hint on Using this page - Each
instruction on this page has a screen shot showing the screen you
should be in at that point. To view the screen shot for each step
click the 
icon (no pun intended) associated with
each step. In addition, it may be useful to print this page out to
have as you go through the installation process.
Step 1 - Downloading the Setup Program
- To start the installation process, double click the 'Internet Explorer
4.5.smi' icon on your desktop.
- The first screen that will come is the IE License Agreement. Click
'Agree' to continue.
- You now should see a window containing a folder called 'Internet
Explorer 4.5'. Open your hard drive. Click and drag the 'Internet
Explorer 4.5' folder over to your hard drive. Once the copying of
this folder is completed, close the IE installation folder screen
on the left.
- Your hard drive should still be open. Inside, double click on the
Internet Explorer 4.5 folder.A screen called 'Internet Explorer 4.5'
will then come up. Next, double click on the Internet Explorer
4.5 icon.
- The next screen will ask you if you want to set Internet Explorer
as your default browser. Click 'Yes' to continue.
- The next screen will ask you if you want to set Outlook Express
as your default mail and news client. Click 'Yes' to continue.
- Internet Explorer will now appear on your screen. If this is the
first time a web browser has been loaded onto your machine, you will
get a blank page. If you already have a web browser on your machine,
the web site you have set as your existing home page may come up.
Step 3 -
Setting your Home Page
Although you can set Internet
Explorer to start out at any web page, we highly suggest that you
(especially new users) set BestWeb as your home page. The BestWeb
page offers a number of features that help you take advantage of
the Internet as well as providing you with news and updates relevant
to your service. To set your home page, do the following:
- Select the Edit option at the top of your screen and click on 'Preferences'.
In the left column, click on the 'Web Browser' category. Select the
'Home/Search' option. Fill in the homepage address: http://www.bestweb.net
. Make sure the box next to 'Automatically go to this Home Page
when opening a new window' is checked. Click on OK to save and continue.
- Step 4 - Setting
up Outlook Express
The only part remaining to be
set up is a program called Outlook Express which you can use to send
and receive E-mail. At this point you should already be in Internet
Explorer. If not, open your hard drive and open the Internet Explorer
4.5 folder and click on Internet Explorer. Continue on with the following
steps:
- Select the Edit option at the top of your screen and click on 'Preferences'.
In the left column, under the 'E-mail' category, select
the 'General' option.
- You should now see a section called
'Personal Settings' in the top right hand area of this screen. Where
it says Real Name enter your real name or the name of your
business. This is the name that will appear on E-mail messages you
send. On the next line, E-mail address, enter your BestWeb
E-mail address in lower case letters. Your E-mail address is your BestWeb
username followed by '@bestweb.net'. For instance if your username
is 'john1234', your E-mail address would be 'john1234@bestweb.net'.
In the next section, it says 'Sending Mail'. Where it says SMTP
host type in 'smtp.bestweb.net' in all lower case. The next
section should be called 'Retrieving Mail'. Where it says Mail
host type in 'pop.bestweb.net' in all lower case. Once you
have that set, click the 'OK' button to save.
You are now all set to use Internet Explorer 4.5 for Macintosh!
