Windows 95/98/ME
In order to ensure that your DSL continues to work, you will need to perform these changes to your computer sometime between Tuesday, August 28th and Saturday September 1st. Then, after our maintenance period on Sunday morning, (September 2nd) you will need to reboot your computer one more time.
Note - If you install any components during the setup process you may need your Windows 95 or 98 CD-ROM or access to the source (CAB) files that windows was originally installed from.
Before starting, please close all programs.
Step 1.

Double-click the "My Computer" icon on your desktop.

Step 2.

Double-click the "Control Panel" icon in the "My Computer" window.

Step 3.
|
Double-click the "Network" icon in the "Control Panel" window.
|
|

Step 4.
|
Highlight TCP/IP, and then press the Properties button.
**In some cases you may have more than one. If you are using an external modem, you want to
highlight the one that says something similar to TCP/IP->(brand)Ethernet. If you are using an
internal modem, you want to highlight the one that says something similar to TCP/IP->(brand)ADSL
modem.
Press Properties.
Some versions of Windows may give you a prompt starting with "You have asked to change properties
for...", just click OK.

Step 5.

Place the dot next to "Obtain an IP address automatically" This will gray out the section below it.

Step 6.

Click on the tab on top that says "Gateway"
Under "Installed Gateways," highlight the IP address (Usually something similar to 216.179.47.1)
and click remove.

Step 7.

Click on the tab on top that says "DNS Configuration"
Place the dot next to "Disable DNS." This will gray out the section below it.Click OK twice.

Step 8.

At this time, Windows may ask for your CD.
While Windows is making changes to your computer it may give you the following error: "A file
being copied is older than the file currently on your computer. Do you want to keep the
existing file?" Any time is says this, you want to click "yes" to keep the existing file.
Once it is finished, it will tell you that it needs to restart your system.
This stage of modifications is complete. Please make sure to go back and submit your MAC address, or click here to do so.
